La scrittrice inglese Marilyn Botterill (foto). Marilyn Botterill in Irlanda per un fine settimana ci racconta della sua vita. Esperta di filosofia, religione e scienze e' sempre alla ricerca della verita'. Potere, matrimonio e divorzio. Sempre alla ricerca di risposte. What is the origin of your interest in philosophy and religion? For as long as I can remember I was asking questions. I soon found that I could not get satisfactory answers from all the people I asked. Some people accepted things as they were because that is how life was explained to them. Others still had the questions without the answers.
What do you do if science gives you one answer to your question and your church gives you a different answer? What if you become aware of different interpretations of the same Bible and scripture shown by different churches but each believes it is correct? Why is there so much suffering and unfairness in the world? I thought the best way to find out was to study and find out for myself. This became the start of my interest in philosophy and religion because I needed to study them to get answers. After all the different branches of Christianity and different major religions were saying theirs was the one true God and their way was the only way to worship and to get to heaven. What was heaven and who or what was God anyway? Could God really come down to earth in human form and not loose His power as God? I cover these issues and more in “Out of the Darkness, the Theory of Everything”. How, if at all, does this affect your daily life? This has affected my daily life because I strongly believe in God and that everyone has a spiritual side. I could see that people had lost faith over different issues with the Church from the questions raised by the Creation story to marriage, birth control and divorce. I learnt how the church evolved and how certain power hungry individuals changed the emphasis of what was taught by Jesus so that what is practised by the Church as an authority is different. The early church did not look on Jesus as divine but as a great teacher of spiritual values and development as well as a healer. With power came control and the control increased to stop questions and perpetuate a way of life. Have you had any contact or conflict with authority? Yes I have had conflict with authority on several levels. People in power do not like being challenged because it is a threat to their authority. Two key issues were marriage and divorce. As I explained and gave evidence for in “As It Really Was” marriage is not mentioned in the Bible even once as being a divine law or sacrament and divorce, although hopefully not used, is not condemned with the threat of divine punishment by Jesus or God. Do you have plans for further writing? There are many more issues that I would like to write about so yes I have plans for further books.
